Recently one 15-year-old female from Nagpur was referred to Nagpur based Orange City Hospital & Research Institute, a unit of Ravi Nair Hospitals Private Limited. She was admitted under care of Dr. Bindu Marar- OCHRI Sr. Gynecologist. She has complaints of fullness of abdomen since 2 months and increased bleeding during periods since 5 months. She started feeling fullness of abdomen; which was gradually increasing in size. She was referred to OCHRI for further surgical management. On examination; she had huge, tense, palpable lump of 36 weeks’ size that completely filling the abdomen. If a cyst is large, causing pain, or appears suspicious for cancer, treatment usually involves surgery to remove the cyst or the entire ovary. Inspite of high-risk surgery; her relatives having complete faith on treating doctor consented for surgical intervention which was conducted with high risk guarded prognosis.
After detailed workup; the patient was taken for elective Laparoscopic surgery. The intricate surgery for resection of huge ovarian cyst was performed by Dr. Mukund Thakur-Senior Laparoscopic Surgeon and Dr. Bindu Marar- Senior Gynecologist. Dr. Neeta Deshpande -Anesthetist provided necessary anesthesia while Sr. Pinki Sakhre assisted them. Surgical findings showed Left huge ovarian cyst with torsion showing one twist in pedicle. Dimension of cyst was 26×26 cm. 7.5 litre of brownish fluid was drained from the cyst. Left ovary was completely replaced by ovarian cyst and Left tube was stretched over the ovarian cyst. Post removal of this large cyst, her weight reduced by 12 kg.
Dr. Bindu Marar informed that, “Due to the size of the cyst and the fact that malignancy was suspected, Laparoscopic removal of this large Left ovarian cyst with Left fallopian tube was done without any complications successfully.”
