More than 110 private hospitals of Vidarbha with total bed strength of more than 10000 have joined hands to form Vidarbha Hospitals Association which is aimed to help set quality standards, ensure cost effective quality health care to incoming needy patients, support statutory authorities to enhance the image of Nagpur as an exemplary health care destination and to protect the interests of health care service providers. VHA is also member of District Health Coordination Committee chaired by Nagpur Guardian Minister.
Recently during his visit to Nagpur, Dr. Rajendraji Phadke, National Convener- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Mission graciously consented to grace the “Manthan” undertaking organised by VHA and hosted by Meditrina Hospital in matters concerning Indian Maternal & Child Health.
It was concurred that major health problems affecting mothers and children in India still continues to be Malnutrition, Infection & Unregulated fertility. Indian public spending on health is amongst the lowest in the world, whereas its proportion of private spending on health is one of the highest. Persistent malnutrition, high level of anaemia amongst children and women, inadequate safe drinking water round the year, over-crowding of dwelling units, unsatisfactory state of sanitation and disposal of wastes constitute major challenges for the public health system in India. The urgent need is to transform the public health system into an accountable, accessible and affordable system of quality services.
VHA conveyed the policy makers to raise public spending on health from 0.3% GDP to at least 5% of GDP with improved arrangement for community financing and risk pooling and to revamp health system by involving private health care sector and thus enable it to effectively handle increased allocations and promote policies that strengthen public health management and service delivery in the country.
Dr. Rajendraji Phadke thanked VHA for their proactive rendition to cooperate with Government for any medico-social policy making initiative.
Apart from VHA office bearers Dr. Uday Mahorkar, Dr. Anup Marar, Dr.Sameer Paltewar, Dr.Raju Deshmukh & Dr. Hemant Deshpande ; prominently present during this interactive informal meeting were MMC member Dr.Vinky Rughwani, COMHADD International President Dr.Uday Bodhankar, DHO Dr.Nagrale, IMA representative Dr. Deotale along with senior RSS Office bearers Dr.Rajeshji Loya and Dr.Dileepji Gupta, Chairperson of NMC Maternal and Child Health Committee Smt.Pragatitai Patil, Shri.Ashok Patki of Hedgewar Blood Bank and host of social workers, NGO representatives and doctors from all across the city.
