Naman- The annual Pooja & Yagna ritual done to pray for good health of all was recently conducted to commemorate 20th Foundation Day celebrations of Orange City Hospital & Research Institute with Shri.Udaybhaskar Nair as Yajman. Dr.Usha Nair, Dr.Darshan Rewanwar and Shri.Simha Chalam led team of Naman Organizing committee. Sri Vardarajan Iyer assisted by Sri Jayaganesh Iyer conducted the Yagna rituals.

On this occasion Shri.Udaybhaskar Nair stated that Havan has a purifying effect on both the devotee who performs this ritual as well as one’s environment. Through the chanting of mantras and offerings into the fire, one’s chakras are re-energised, creating a revitalised and rejuvenating effect for both the body and mind.

Dr.Usha Nair mentioned that the agnihotra (sacred fire) has been a very important part of all Vedic ceremonies since the beginning of time. The act of putting ghee, fire-wood, food and samagree into a specially lit fire represents the sacrifice of valuable material resources essential for human survival and contentment such as food and fuel.

Dr.Anup Marar added that the composition of samagree was scientifically formulated by sages in pre-historic India to confer disinfectant and sterilising properties to the vapours produced by the fire. Effectively, it is an ancient – and organic – method of purification of the environment by fumigation. The heated air produced by the fire spreads to all places in the home or building where it is performed and so purifies the air by destroying germs as well as producing a pleasant fragrance.

Dr.Darshan Rewanwar conveyed that light from the flame of the fire is a symbol of knowledge replacing ignorance (darkness). Enlightenment of the mind is enhanced by the act of chanting mantras whilst the fire is fed.

Prominently present on this spiritual event were Dr.Bindu Menon, Dr.Madhuri Likhitkar, Shri.Roy Thomas, Shri.Simha Chalam, Smt.Priya Sasi, Shri.Dayaram Nimbarte, Shri.Ramesh Pande, Smt.Durga Joshi, Shri.Naresh Tiwari, Shri.Pravin Kelkar, Shri.Avinash Ganar and Shri.Ravindra Dhande.
