Every doctor should be aware about the rights and responsibilities of care giver and receiver- Dr.Ninad Gawande
No doctor can refuse to render first aid to needy accident patients. Many doctors become wary of treating medicolegal cases apprehending police/ court visit matters. It is essential for every doctor to understand and comprehend Medico- Legal Case (MLC) Documentation & related formalities. Nagpur based Orange City Hospital & Research Institute is one of the major private hospitals of region which caters to maximum number of medicolegal case like accident, poisoning etc. A full fledged medicolegal division works at OCHRI under leadership of Dr.Ninad Gawande, MD (Forensic Medicine) at OCHRI. OCHRI Casualty complex supervised by Dr.Noorul Ameen caters round the clock to many medicolegal cases. Space for a police Chowky has also been allotted at OCHRI Casualty under Police station Dhantoli. To sensitise and train interested medical professionals about medicolegal case management, an Orientation workshop on Medico-legal case management was organised by OCHRI Medicolegal Division recently in Jaivik Sabhagruha, OCHRI. Dr.Ninad Gawande was the faculty member who was ably assisted by Dr.Noorul Ameen.
Highlighting this undertaking; Dr.Ninad Gawande stated that “The medical profession is a noble profession and its relationship with the law has evolved in a fast developing world with the norms governing this relationship fast changing with the passage of time. The most intriguing aspect is the conduct of medical professional and the entire team including the hospital staff and management. It is crucial for each doctor to be sensitised about his duties, rights and responsibilities.”
Dr.Anup Marar, Director, OCHRI added that with aspirations becoming higher; private hospitals have tried to fill the huge gap between demand and supply. As numbers of health care service based issues are being raised due to friction between rights and responsibilities as per the Constitution, such orientation workshop is need of the hour.
