Orange City Hospital & Research Institute has been undertaking regular Cochlear Implant surgeries to benefit needy deaf children. Freedom from Deafness movement launched by OCHRI under aegis of Project Geeta has even got endorsements from TATA Trust and Hon’ble CM Office who are funding the surgeries to benefit needy children.
Recently a sensitization workshop for teachers based in peripheries was organized by acclaimed Audiologist and Speech Therapist Smt. Mithila Poonacha from Bangalore. Smt. Mithila Poonacha is a dual degree holder of Audiology and Speech Therapy. Dr.Ashish Disawal, ENT Surgeon & Audiologist- OCHRI organized this unique convention for the benefit of selected teachers attached to Sarvaa Shiksha Abhiyaan movement in Vidarbha and expressed that these trained teachers will be able to help TEAM OCHRI create a network in Vidarbha to search needy children who can be operated on time and also help them with post operative therapy rendition.
Dr.Usha Nair, Director- Ravi Nair Hospitals Private Limited conveyed the mission undertaken by Shri.Udaybhaskar Nair, Chairman- NAIRSONS to timely reach out to all needy deaf children especially in Vidarbha and thanked Smt.Mithila for supporting OCHRI’s Freedom from Deafness movement. Dr.Anup Marar, Director- OCHRI highlighted the exemplary milestones achieved till date by OCHRI Cochlear Implant team led by Dr.Nandu Kolwadkar. Dr.Sameer Choudhary, Secretary- Association of Otolaryngologists- Nagpur commended the efforts of TEAM OCHRI for undertaking this noble venture and sought assistance of all Pediatricians, ENT Surgeons, Audiologists, teachers and social workers to reach out to needy children. It is highlighted that new borns will be screened @ Rs.150/- for basic hearing assessment with an advance portable machine by Dr.Ashish Disawal between 3-5 PM on all working days at OCHRI OPD. The convention resolved that all newborns children should be compulsorily screened for hearing assessment before they are discharged from any maternity home/ hospital. AOL- Nagpur will also be corresponding with NOGS/FOGSI/IAP to sensitize their members about this urgent need. Smt. Mithila Poonacha appreciated the sincerity and dedication of CIP TEAM-OCHRI led by Dr.Nandu Kolwadkar and Dr.Ashish Disawal for pursuing this novel undertaking. Smt.Shradha Disawal assisted Dr.Ashish Disawal in organizing this 2 day convention. Prominently present on this occasion were Dr.Rajesh Atal, Dr.Kuldeep Sukhadeve and Dr.Nandu Kolwadkar. M/s Advance Bionics backed this program. Shri.Ganesh Iyer coordinated the itinerary.

Recently a new Semi private Jaivik ward was dedicated to nation by Shri.Udaybhaskar Nair, Chairman- NAIRSONS Group on the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa.

The renovated ward which is cost effectively compact to benefit the incoming needy patients with more privileges and facilities as compared to general ward was created looking into demands of many cost conscious enlightened patients.
Shri.Roy Thomas-GM supervised the execution of this project in time bound manner as per the design made by Shri.Makrand Bhagwat.

It spreads moral and ethical values through stories. Jaivik is being published by OCHRI since 2000. Recently Smt. Jyoti Bawankule, wife of Hon’ble Shri.Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister- Nagpur released the recent edition of Jaivik and appreciated the efforts of OCHRI management to permeate positive values & goodness in society through Jaivik. She added that sharing good thoughts and good anecdotes instills positivism amongst readers. Prominently present on this release ceremony were Dr.Usha Nair- Publisher, Dr.Anup Marar- Founder Editor in Chief, Smt.Manjiri Damle- Manager, Smt.Saramma Samuel- Social Worker and Ms.Kishori Kale- Circulation Incharge, Jaivik News paper. Recently faculty members of NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences, Hingna visited OCHRI Casualty and Critical Care Complex to comprehend the indigenous working protocols implemented at OCHRI which had led to its standing as Central India’s Health Caretaker. Dr.Charuta Gadkari & Dr.Shubhada Deshmukh, Professors of Anesthesiology were deputed by Dr.Amol Deshmukh, Secretary of Vidya Shikshan Prasarak Mandal to review the working of OCHRI Casualty and Critical Care Complex. Dr.Noorul Ameen, Senior Medical Officer Incharge- OCHRI escorted them and sensitized them about the applicable standard operating procedures. Dr.Ashish Shukla, Chest Physician & Section Coordinator- OCHRI CCU Complex, Dr.Rani Lakhe, Physician Intensivist and Dr.Nandu Kolwadkar, ENT Surgeon & Surgical Coordinator explained the intricacies of CCU working to the visitors. Dr.Anup Marar, Director- OCHRI welcomed them and stated that sharing of good management practices (GMP) amongst medical community in a transparent ethical manner will go a long way in improving patient care all over the nation. The faculty members conveyed their gratitude on behalf of NKPSIMS to OCHRI management led by Shri.Udaybhaskar Nair, Chairman-NAIRSONS for permitting them to observe the working methodology at OCHRI.
